New to Islam? Your First 14 Days with the Quran

Assalamu Alaykum and welcome! If you feel overwhelmed by the size of the Quran, take a deep breath. You don’t need to read it all today. Start with this gentle, heart-focused plan.

Don’t Open Page 1 Yet

If you start reading from the very beginning (Surah Al-Baqarah), you might find it long and complex. The Quran wasn’t revealed in order. It was revealed to build Faith first.

Your goal for the first 2 weeks is not to memorize, but to connect.

Common Mistake: Trying to learn Arabic alphabet, Tajweed, and meaning all at once. This leads to burnout. Focus on Meaning and Listening first.
The Roadmap

Your 14-Day Gentle Start

Week 1: The Connection
Day 1-3
Surah Al-Fatiha (The Opening)

Listen to it repeatedly. Read the translation. This is the conversation you will have with God 5 times a day.

Day 4-5
Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112)

It’s only 4 lines. It summarizes who Allah is. It equals one-third of the Quran in reward.

Day 6-7
Pure Listening

Don’t read. Just put on headphones, close your eyes, and listen to a soothing reciter (like Mishary Rashid) to feel the rhythm.

Week 2: The Habit
Day 8-10
Key Phrases

Learn to say “Bismillah” (In the name of God) before you eat/start work, and “Alhamdulillah” (Praise be to God) when you finish.

Day 11-13
The Protectors (Falaq & Nas)

Read the meaning of the last two chapters (113 & 114). They are used for protection against anxiety and evil.

Day 14
Find a Teacher

Now that you know the basics, it’s time to learn how to pronounce the Arabic letters correctly with a tutor.

Revert Concerns

You Are Not Alone

Do I have to read in Arabic?

For now, reading the translation (English) to understand the message is better than reading Arabic without understanding. For prayer (Salah), you will eventually need to learn the Arabic Fatiha.

Can I touch the Quran without Wudu?

If you are reading a translation (English book) or using a phone app, you do not need Wudu (ablution). Wudu is required for touching the actual Arabic Mushaf.
